Description

The Victron MultiPlus 12/2000/80 is a combined inverter and charger that gives your 12V battery bank full AC power capability. 2000VA pure sine wave inverter powers everything from laptops to microwaves. 80A built-in charger rapidly refills your batteries from shore power or generator. PowerAssist boosts limited AC sources with battery power. UPS function switches in under 20ms — your electronics never notice a power interruption.

Key Features

  • 2000VA / 1600W pure sine wave — powers sensitive electronics, tools, kitchen appliances, and CPAP machines without the interference of modified sine.
  • 80A built-in charger — charges your battery bank at 80A from shore power or generator. A 100Ah battery fills in ~1.25 hours.
  • PowerAssist — supplements a limited shore/generator connection with battery power. A 15A shore connection acts like 30A+ during peak loads.
  • UPS function (<20ms switchover) — if shore power fails, inverter activates instantly. Computers, medical equipment, and networking gear continue uninterrupted.
  • 50A transfer switch — built-in automatic transfer between shore/generator and inverter. No external switch needed.
  • Adaptive LiFePO4 charging — configurable charge profiles for Dakota Lithium batteries. Bulk/absorption/float with proper termination.
  • Parallel up to 4 units — 8000VA / 6400W for large systems. Three-phase and split-phase configurations possible.
  • Remote monitoring — with a GX device (Cerbo GX), monitor and control from anywhere via VRM portal.
  • 5-year Victron warranty — the global standard in off-grid and marine power electronics.

What It Does

  1. Inverts — converts 12V DC battery power to 120V AC for household appliances
  2. Charges — refills batteries at 80A from shore power, generator, or any AC source
  3. Transfers — automatically switches between shore power and inverter (UPS function)
  4. Assists — boosts weak shore/generator connections with battery power during peak loads

Applications

  • RV/Motorhome — full AC power while boondocking. Run microwave, coffee maker, AC, hairdryer from your battery bank.
  • Off-grid cabin — complete power system when paired with solar and a battery bank.
  • Marine liveaboard — shore power management with automatic battery backup.
  • Home backup — UPS function keeps critical loads running during outages.
  • Mobile workshop — power tools, compressors, and equipment from vehicle battery bank.

Compatible Batteries

  • Dakota Lithium 12V 100Ah — good starter system, 1600W for ~45 minutes at full load
  • Dakota Lithium DL+ 12V 135Ah — our recommended pairing. 1600W for ~1 hour, typical loads for 4-6 hours.
  • Dakota Lithium DL+ 12V 320Ah — premium system. 1600W for ~2.5 hours, typical RV loads for 12+ hours.
  • Multi-battery banks — pair with 2-4× 100Ah for extended runtime

System Integration

  • Victron SmartSolar MPPT — solar priority (uses solar first, battery second, shore last)
  • Victron BMV-712 — SOC-based charging decisions
  • Victron Orion-Tr DC-DC — alternator charging coordination
  • Victron Cerbo GX — central brain for monitoring/control via VRM portal

FAQ

Can I run a microwave on this?

Yes — most 1000W microwaves draw ~1500W from the inverter (motor efficiency loss). The MultiPlus handles this within its 2000VA rating. For a 1200W microwave (draws ~1800W), you’re close to the limit but still within spec. Air fryers and hair dryers at 1500W+ may exceed continuous rating.

What size battery bank do I need?

Depends on runtime needs. At full 1600W load: 100Ah = ~45 minutes, 200Ah = ~1.5 hours, 320Ah = ~2.5 hours. For typical RV use (200-400W average with peaks), a 100Ah battery provides 3-6 hours of mixed use. A 320Ah battery handles overnight boondocking comfortably.

Do I need a separate charger too?

No — the MultiPlus IS the charger. Its 80A built-in charger handles shore/generator charging. You don’t need a separate wall charger unless you want a dedicated second charger for redundancy. Add the Orion-Tr DC-DC for alternator charging while driving.

How is this different from a basic inverter?

A basic inverter just converts DC to AC. The MultiPlus adds: built-in 80A charger, automatic transfer switch (shore ↔ inverter), PowerAssist (battery boosts weak shore), UPS function (<20ms switchover), and VE.Bus system integration. It’s a complete power management system, not just an inverter.
